MANUEL GARCÍA VERDECIA’S PROFESSIONAL RESUME

Manuel García Verdecia (Marcané, Holguín, October 5, 1953) is a professor, poet, editor, and translator. He is a prominent member of the UNEAC (Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba) branch in his city, Holguín.
He holds a degree in English, a degree in French, and a Master’s degree in Cuban Culture. He has taught at universities in Cuba, Canada, the Czech Republic, and Mexico. He has participated in: Carlos Pellicer International Poetry Festival in Tabasco, 2006; International Writers’ Meeting and Book Fair in Monterrey, Mexico, 2007; International Poetry Festival of Havana in 2006, 2007, and 2008; Medellín International Poetry Festival, 2008; International Writers’ Meeting in Veracruz, Mexico, April 2010; Santo Domingo International Book Fair, May 2011; Granada Poetry Festival, Nicaragua, February 2012; Antofagasta International Book Fair, Chile, 2015; Monterrey International Book Fair, Mexico, 2016.
His essays explore authors such as José Lezama Lima, Gastón Baquero, Carlos Fuentes, Lisandro Otero, José Soler Puig, Alejo Carpentier, Roberto Fernández Retamar, César López, and Antón Arrufat.
