The Hopi Remember The Trees

The Hopi Remember the Trees

The Last Hopi Elder Who Remembered the Old Forest — What He Said the Trees Really Were (1889)

Because I love trees it makes me happy to know they were once big as mountains.  This Hopi elder’s teaching also reminds me of a tree I once dreamed, or tried to dream.  I say “tried” because it was too large to fit inside my dream.  In the Amazon I asked an Ayahauscha shaman about this and he assured me that in his tradition also there were memories of trees so enormous a modern mind could not, even asleep, accept their size.  One way of thinking about this is: suppose the oceans dried up and became rivers.  Eternities later no one would be able to imagine them.  ~aw
