in new spending bill
Redacted with Clayton & Natali Morris

One of the most moving things about humans is our desire to know.  Here we encounter a bill that basically enslaves Americans for generations; most of us knew nothing about it.  Have no idea how much even one trillion dollars is.  No idea where it is supposed to come from.  No idea why our indebtedness funds regime change in other countries while we scramble to feed and clothe our families in America.  Have we lost our way?  Completely? And what is our biggest threat? Is it our ignorance? Our inability so often not to respect, or listen to each other? Harming others, America has deeply, perhaps irrevocably, wounded itself. ~aw

The Enemy

in gray, battle-scarred Leningrad
a tiny fist unsnapped to show
crumpled heads
of pink and yellow flowers
snatched hurriedly on the go
in the cold spring shower –
Consent or not
countries choose
cold or hot
win or lose
to speak of wars
yellow and red
but there is much
let it be said
for children.
