Emancipation isn’t just a film.

Emancipation isn’t just a film.  It is a reclamation of soul.  That being so, it must be honored with Ceremony, no matter how small and/or brief.  A friend and I lit candles in front of photographs of our children, and objects of meaning from familiar, ancestral, and spiritual lineages: human, animal, mineral and vegetation.  We made a clean space around it’s ending.  No noise or distraction from the offering of soul that Emancipation is.  We offered our gratitude for the ancestral fierceness and unconquerable love that we may recognize in ourselves. We acknowledged our blessedness. This is what art can do.  Return us to our truer selves.~aw

Emancipación no es simplemente una película. Es una reivindicación del alma. Siendo así, debe ser honrada con ceremonia, no importa si pequeña y/o breve. Una amiga y yo encendimos velas ante fotografías de nuestros hijos, y objetos significativos de linaje familiar, ancestral, y espiritual: humanos, animales, minerales y vegetales. Abrimos un espacio limpio en torno a su final. Ningún ruido o distracción de la ofrenda del alma que es Emancipación. Ofrecimos nuestra gratitud por la fiereza ancestral y el invencible amor que podemos admitir en nosotros. Reconocimos nuestra bienaventuranza. Esto es lo que puede hacer el arte. Devolvernos a nuestro más verdadero ser. ~AW
