REPRINT OF campaign launched 08-02-2022 by In Gaza BDS gives us hope:
Help us to transform HOPE into LIBERATION.
It’s been 15 years since Israel imposed a hermetic, medieval siege on Gaza from all directions, transforming it into the world’s largest and most brutal open-air prison.
For more than seven decades, Israel’s regime of settler-colonialism, apartheid and military occupation has been ethnically cleansing us, destroying our homes, stealing our land, and violently crushing our lives and livelihoods.
We need even stronger international solidarity to end this. For us Indigenous Palestinians, the growing impact of the BDS movement is one of our main beacons of hope.
A former UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian territory, Richard Falk, described the siege of Gaza as “prelude to genocide.” While UN reports predicted that Gaza would be uninhabitable by 2020, over two million Palestinians in Gaza continue to live under inhumane conditions of immense suffering and deprivation.
In Gaza, the absolute majority are refugees yearning to return to their lands from which they had been forcibly displaced during the 1948 Nakba. Despite utter poverty, high rate of unemployment, extreme restrictions on movement, the dire shortage of medicine and lack of a proper healthcare system, and widespread traumas, grief and depression after four horrendous Israeli military aggressions since 2008, Palestinians in Gaza and everywhere continue to resist Israel’s regime of oppression to achieve our freedom and dignity.
BDS gives strength to our struggle. It is the most effective form of solidarity with our liberation struggle. It enables people of conscience worldwide to cut links of complicity, whether individual, institutional or corporate, with Israel’s regime of oppression, thus supporting our struggle.
