It Is Our (Frightful) Duty

To Study The Talmud

The first time I was accused

Of appearing to be anti-Semitic

The shock did not wear off
For days.
The man who charged me
Was a friend.
A Jewish Soul
Who I thought understood
Or could learn to understand
Almost anything.

He could not understand
However
Why I thought Israel should give back
The land it took
From a poorly defended
People in a war that lasted
Six days. I cringed
About our small house
In Mississippi (where black people
Often assumed he was a racist)
Deeply offended by his attempt
To insult my character
And spoke to him
Earnestly of “dignity” “justice”
“honor” and “peace.”

Sometimes, later in life,
You do laugh at yourself.
You understand, finally,
That you’ve understood
Nothing. Nothing at all.
That in this case, for instance,
That of the famed Six Day War,
It was all a show,
A true “Theatre” war;
The battlefield a stage,
Though bombs and bullets were real.
Only the people who lost the battle
Got a close-up
Of the set.
And the set-up.

Later I would march
Or be arrested
Protesting this war and that
And marvel how it never mattered.
On days we marched in our tens of thousands
The people we hoped to influence
Were taking a holiday. Bush was
good at this. He let the media
Spread the word he was chillin’ on his
12,000 or is it 20,000
Acre ranch.
Bill and Barack made themselves
Scarce.

When I was in Palestine
As an elder
Doing my job
Of keeping tabs
On Earth’s children
I remembered my concern
And how my friend
Had brushed it off.

“Israel needs that land to protect itself.”
He said. As though this should be
Self- evident. It wasn’t then;
It isn’t now.

The land taken
Has never been returned.
In fact, more stolen land
Has followed the first assaults
And thefts.
Palestinian children, after years
Of throwing stones
At grown up assassins
In helmets and armored tanks
Are killing themselves
These days
To save their murderers
The trouble.

Unlike most Americans
I have witnessed Palestine
Under Israeli rule. It is demonic
To the core. But where to look
For the inspiration
For so much evil? Where
To find the teachings that influence
And sanction such limitless cruel behavior?

Where to find that part
Of the puzzle that is missing?
We’ve intuited there must be one.
And we were right.

We must go back
As grown ups, now,
Not as the gullible children we once were,
And study our programming,
From the beginning.
All of it: The Christian, the Jewish,
The Muslim; even the Buddhist. All of it, without exception,
At the root.

For the study of Israel, of Gaza, of Palestine,
Of the bombed out cities of the Middle East,
Of the creeping Palestination
Of our police, streets, and prisons
In America,
Of war in general,
It is our duty, I believe, to study The Talmud.
It is within this book that,
I believe, we will find answers
To some of the questions
That most perplex us.

Where to start?

You will find some information,
Slanted, unfortunately,
By Googling. For a more in depth study
I recommend starting with YouTube. Simply follow the trail of “The
Talmud” as its poison belatedly winds its way
Into our collective consciousness.

Some of what you find will sound
Too crazy to be true. Unfortunately those bits are likely
To be true. Some of the more evasive studies
Will exhibit unbelievable attempts
At sugar coating extremely disagreeable pills.
But hang in there, checking
And double checking, listening to everybody,
Even the teachers with the twisted pasts
That scare you the most,
And the taped rants of outraged citizens that sound
Like madcap characters on Car Talk
Except they are not laughing
But are righteously outraged.

Study hard, with an open
If deeply offended mind,
Until you can sift the false
From the true.

Is Jesus boiling eternally in hot excrement,
For his “crime” of throwing the bankers
Out of the Temple? For loving, standing with,
And defending
The poor? Was his mother, Mary,
A whore?

Are Goyim (us) meant to be slaves of Jews, and not only
That, but to enjoy it?
Are three year old (and a day) girls eligible for marriage and intercourse?
Are young boys fair game for rape?
Must even the best of the Goyim (us, again) be killed?
Pause a moment and think what this could mean
Or already has meant
In our own lifetime.

You may find that as the cattle
We have begun to feel we are
We have an ancient history of oppression
Of which most of us have not been even vaguely
Aware. You will find that we, Goyim, sub-humans, animals
-The Palestinians of Gaza
The most obvious representatives of us
At the present time – are a cruel example of what may be done
With impunity, and without conscience,
By a Chosen people,
To the vast majority of the people
On the planet
Who were not Chosen.
Not chosen to receive the same dubious
“Blessing” of
Supremacy over the Earth,
Humans, and Beasts of this realm. As is
Stated plainly in the first chapter
Of the Bible we all read.
The Unchosen who, until now,
Were too scared of being
Called names
To demand to know why.

It is a “Blessing” Jesus did not want.
One that, risking crucifixion, he refused.
One reason he is loved
By those who recognize a good
And righteous person
When they encounter one.
Seen in this light he wasn’t even
A spiritual progressive, but a committed
Revolutionary: a Che Guevara
Of the ancient past.

A past as scary, if not scarier, than
Our own time: A past that,
Unfortunately, is not even past (quoting
Faulkner).

We discover this
To our enlightened grief
As we study
The Talmud,
Our own ignorance,
And the devastating impact of both
On our abandoned world.

A fairly recent video “The Head of the Snake… Les Wexner et al”supports the belief that we should study all the old to ancient religious texts. At some point there are rabbis in a jolly mood discussing how many slaves they are promised and how many they already have. Who and what promised them this? Are we not right to wonder?

ES NUESTRO (TREMENDO) DEBER ESTUDIAR EL TALMUD

Cuando por primera vez me acusaron de parecer antisemita, el impacto no desapareció por días. El hombre que me incriminó era un amigo, un alma judía que yo creía que comprendía o que podría llegar a comprender casi todo. Sin embargo, no podía entender por qué pensaba yo que Israel debía devolver la tierra que le arrebató a un pueblo mal defendido en una guerra que duró seis días. Sentí vergüenza al pensar en nuestra pequeña casa en Mississippi (donde las personas negras con frecuencia lo tomaban por racista), profundamente ofendida por su intento de insultar mi carácter y le hablé seriamente de “dignidad”, “justicia”, “honor” y “paz”.

A veces, después en la vida, ciertamente te ríes de ti mismo. Entiendes, finalmente, que no has comprendido nada. Nada de nada. Que en este caso, por ejemplo, el de la famosa Guerra de los Seis Días, todo fue un espectáculo, una verdadera guerra “teatral”; el campo de batalla era un escenario, aunque las bombas y las balas eran reales. Solo aquellos que perdieron la batalla tuvieron un primer plano del escenario. Y del montaje.

Más tarde marcharía o me arrestarían en protestas contra una y otra guerra, y me asombraría de cómo nunca importó. En los días en que decenas de miles marchábamos, la gente a la que esperábamos influenciar estaba de vacaciones. Bush era bueno en esto. Dejaba que los medios difundieran que estaba relajado en su rancho de 12.000 o quizás 20.000 acres. Bill y Barack se esfumaron. Bill y Barack se desaparecían del mapa.

Cuando estaba en Palestina, ya como mayor haciendo mi trabajo de atender a los niños de la Tierra, recordé mi preocupación y cómo mi amigo la había ignorado. “Israel necesita esa tierra para protegerse”, dijo. Como si ello tuviera que ser por sí mismo evidente. No lo era entonces. No lo es ahora. Los niños palestinos, tras años de arrojar piedras a adultos asesinos con cascos y tanques blindados se están matando ellos mismos en estos días para evitarles el problema a sus asesinos.

A diferencia de la mayoría de los estadounidenses he presenciado a Palestina bajo el control israelí. Es demoníaco hasta la médula. Pero, ¿dónde buscar la motivación para tanta perversidad? ¿Dónde hallar las enseñanzas que influyan y aprueben tal ilimitada y cruel conducta? ¿Dónde encontrar la pieza del rompecabezas perdida? Hemos intuido que debe haber una. Y estábamos en lo cierto.

Debemos volver ahora como adultos, no como los niños crédulos que una vez fuimos, y estudiar nuestra formación, desde el principio. Completa: la cristiana, la judía, la musulmana; incluso la budista. Toda, sin excepción, desde la raíz. Para el estudio de Israel, de Gaza, de Palestina, de las ciudades bombardeadas del Medio Oriente, de la creciente “palestinización” de nuestra policía, nuestras calles y cárceles en Estados Unidos, de la guerra en general, es nuestro deber, creo, estudiar el Talmud. Es en este libro, considero, donde encontraremos respuestas a algunas de las preguntas que más nos desconciertan.

¿Por dónde empezar?

Encontrarás información, tergiversada desafortunadamente, buscando en Google. Para un estudio más profundo, recomiendo empezar por YouTube. Simplemente sigue el rastro de “El Talmud” mientras su veneno se abre paso retardadamente por nuestra conciencia colectiva. Parte de lo que encontrarás parecerá demasiado desatinado para ser verdad. Desafortunadamente, esas partes puede que sean ciertas. Algunos de los estudios más evasivos mostrarán tentativas increíbles de endulzar píldoras extremadamente desagradables. Pero espera, verificando y volviendo a verificar, escuchando a todo el mundo, incluso a los profesores con embarazosos pasados que más te asustan, y los improperios grabados de ciudadanos indignados que suenan como personajes disparatados de Car Talk, solo que no se ríen, sino que están justificadamente indignados. Estudia mucho, con mente abierta, si bien hondamente ofendida, hasta que puedas separar lo falso de lo verdadero.

¿Acaso está Jesús hirviendo eternamente en excrementos calientes por su “crimen” de expulsar a los mercaderes del Templo? ¿Por amar, ponerse del lado de y defender a los pobres? ¿Fue su madre, María, una prostituta?

¿Estamos los gentiles (nosotros) destinados a ser esclavos de los judíos, y no solo eso, sino también a disfrutarlo? ¿Son las niñas de tres años (y un día) elegibles para el matrimonio y las relaciones sexuales? ¿Son los niños pequeños presa fácil de violación? ¿Deben incluso los mejores gentiles (nosotros, de nuevo) ser asesinados? Detente un momento y piensa lo que esto podría significar o ya ha significado en nuestra propia vida.

Podrías descubrir que, como el ganado que hemos empezado a sentir que somos, tenemos una antigua historia de opresión de la cual la mayoría de nosotros no hemos estado ni vagamente conscientes. Descubrirás que nosotros, los goyim, infrahumanos, animales —siendo los palestinos de Gaza nuestros representantes más evidentes en la actualidad— somos un cruel ejemplo de lo que un Pueblo Elegido puede hacer con impunidad y, sin conciencia, a la gran mayoría de la gente del planeta que no fue Elegida. No elegida para recibir la misma dudosa “Bendición” de Supremacía sobre la Tierra, los Humanos y las Bestias de este reino. Como se afirma claramente en el primer capítulo de la Biblia que todos leemos. Los No Elegidos que, hasta ahora, tenían demasiado miedo de ser insultados como para exigir saber por qué.

Es una “bendición” que Jesús no quiso. Una que, exponiéndose a la crucifixión, él rechazó. Una razón por la que lo aman aquellos que reconocen a una persona buena y justa cuando la hallan. Visto desde esta perspectiva, él ni siquiera era un progresista espiritual, sino un revolucionario comprometido: un Che Guevara del pasado antiguo. Un pasado tan aterrador, si no más aterrador, que el de nuestra época: un pasado que, desgraciadamente, ni siquiera es pasado (citando a Faulkner). Descubrimos esto, para nuestro dolor iluminado al estudiar el Talmud, nuestra propia ignorancia y el impacto devastador de ambos en nuestro abandonado mundo.

Un video bastante reciente, The Head of the Snake… Les Wexner et al (La Cabeza de la Serpiente… Les Wexner et al.), sostiene la creencia de que deberíamos estudiar todos los textos religiosos, viejos y más antiguos. En algún momento, hay rabinos, de buen humor, discutiendo cuántos esclavos les han prometido y cuántos ya tienen. ¿Quién y qué les prometió esto? ¿No tenemos razón en preguntarnos?

¡Es nuestro deber fundamental estudiar el Talmud!
