I hope you will enjoy this audio recording of my poem, We Have a Beautiful Mother. The music is from an amazing CD, Praises For the World, by Jennifer Berezan.
The photo is of me in my garden with my friend Miles. I am reading from Why War is Never a Good Idea, a picture book for children and those adults who still remember, and honor, themselves as children. It is beautifully illustrated by Italian artist Stefano Vitale.
“Buffaloes” is poetic license. Not only because it goes better with “hills” but because the remaining buffalo are so few. Seen from the point of view of the buffalo, “buffaloes” would relieve, in small degree, their sense of unbearable loss, devastation and loneliness.
